Production Process

From brass disc to finished case: a six-stage production flow based on deep drawing.

Process

Deep Drawing
Production Flow

Case production begins with a disc blanked from brass strip being deep drawn in progressive presses. Because each drawing step work-hardens the material, controlled annealing is applied between stages. The final stages cover head pressing, primer pocket machining, mouth trimming and dimensional calibration.

01

Blanking & Cupping

Blanking the disc from brass strip and forming the first cup.

02

Deep Drawing

Wall thickness is reduced in progressive drawing presses to reach the case body length.

03

Interstage Annealing

Annealing in a controlled atmosphere removes work hardening and makes the material formable again.

04

Head & Primer Pocket

Case head pressing, primer pocket and flash hole machining, extractor groove cutting.

05

Calibration & Trimming

Mouth trimming, length calibration and finalising the diameter tolerances.

06

Washing & Quality Control

Surface cleaning, polishing, sample-based dimensional and visual quality control, packaging.

Quality Control

Measurement at Every Stage

Sample-based dimensional and visual inspection is applied at every stage of the production line. Case length, head and mouth diameters, wall thickness and primer pocket dimensions are verified against the tolerances stated in the customer technical drawing.

  • Stage-based sample measurement and record keeping
  • Surface quality and burr inspection
  • Dimensional tolerance verification
  • Final visual inspection and sorting before packaging
